Scandal feature: Entertainment Weekly Fall TV 2013 Preview issue. (Feature by Lynette Rice. Photographed by Art Streiber)

This issue hits newsstands on Friday September 13th! H/T: Scandal411

Things I love about the new Scandal cast photo:
Love the concept behind the image there. I also like that Olivia and Fitz’s playing chess. Political chess is something quite familiar in the Scandal world (ahem, Defiance and the fact Olivia’s the best political fixer in DC.) I like that the White House crew is positioned behind Fitz and OPA is positioned behind Olivia. The cast’s fashion game is stellar from Abby’s new look to the color schemes used! Olivia stands out in white and Mellie’s rocking purple! Harrison has on his signature plaid and purple! I love that Olivia Pope’s the only one facing and looking directly into the camera. It’s Olivia Pope’s world and we all just live in it!

To paraphrase a Cyrus Beene quote
“…play a mean game of political chess.”

Quotes from the Feature

  • “We are going to fix this!” (Season 3 Premiere, “It’s Handled.”)
  • “We’re only doing what you wouldn’t do for yourself.” – Harrison Wright (Season 3 Premiere, “It’s Handled.”)
  • “Fitz is in extreme damage-control mode. He’s trying to be the calm at the center of the storm, because as one would expect, all hell has broken loose of the revelation of Olivia being his mistress and finding out who is behind the leak – this source. Literally the White House is on fire. So Fitz’s state of mind is trying to maintain some kind of steady hand at the helm.” – Tony Goldwyn
  • “They have all made that commitment to sort of re-center the firm on its principles, to wear the white hat in a big way. When this comes out, they are trying to handle it in the spirit of why this firm was originally founded, to right wrongs and to be a light of goodness. They’re trying to handle this scandal – the revealing of her name to the press – in the most ethical way possible.” – Kerry Washington

The issue also features plenty of great Season 3 and Emmy intel!

EW’s definitive Emmy Award Predictions has Kerry Washington as the winner of the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Who Will Win

Melissa says, Sure, Emmy voters check Danes’ name whenever she breaks down to jazz music. But Washington’s earning raves in a category that no African-American actress has ever won. As Olivia Pope would say, “It’s handled.”

Best Actress Drama: Kerry Washington, Scandal

Her performance as a glamorous political fixer on the ABC melodrama is almost woozy with longing – something out of a Hollywood dream rather than the drab Beltway world of turning heads.
